Been rocking to this since 1996!

Notes

This album is excellent. I remember being super stoked that it slapped front to back, not a bad song on the whole damn thing. It was on heavy rotation when I first got it and during a difficult breakup. The last track, "Fly Away", was always one of my favorites, but when I had a that breakup, it gained a much deeper emotional connection for me.

Back in the winter of 1995/96 I was in Wisconsin (USA) working. I had some friends there and we'd get together every weekend to play Dungeons and Dragons. One weekend they let me know that they were going to attend a concert the next weekend so we wouldn't be having a D&D session. They said they could get me tickets if I wanted to join them, and I didn't have anything better to do, so I agreed.

We got a ride to the venue, so I don't really remember where we went. I tried researching it, but I can't find any record of a concert in the south-east area of Wisconsin, during the fall of 95 to spring of 96 timeframe. In my head, the concert was in Milwaukee, but it doesn't really matter, I guess. Anyway, it was a Seven Mary Three concert and Poe opened for them.

It was my first concert. I remember it wasn't a huge venue, just a modest stage and an open area in front of it where we all stood watching the concert. We mostly stayed in the back because up front people were packed in and there was some moshing. The younger brother of one of my friends went up there and said he got sucker punched from behind. Despite the sucker punch we all had a great time. I even got a Seven Mary Three t-shirt and waited around to get it signed by the band.

We all knew of Seven Mary Three, Cumbersome was a big hit for them at the time. None of us had heard of Poe before we went to the concert. The funny thing is that the next weekend when we got together for D&D, everyone had a Poe CD. I still own mine to this day.
