2025.02.26 | OMG, I'm falling down a coding hole. I wanted to get the Rock Garden situation fixed, which meant getting Jake's Juke up and running. So, I started doing some development work on my test page to figure out what’s and how’s. I came up with something that I think can work, but I was a bit stuck on what I wanted for the actual page layout, so I started working on "tangents". I tend to go on tangents while talking, so they often show up when I'm writing. Only I strip them out while revising because I don't like it when text is too rambly. So, I wanted to add a way to be able to put in tangents like hidden pockets that could be explored optionally. I managed to get the basics of that worked out and then for some reason, I decided to look into using a Google Form for a guest book, even though I’m not sure I want a guest book. But then that led me into a new idea for Jake’s Juke, and I’m having to learn a bunch of new stuff, to see if I can make it work. |
2025.02.15 | I'm a bit frustrated. I was working on my Pacifica tribute and accidentally discovered a variation of it I hadn't thought of that I like better, but it means throwing out everything I already did and starting over and multiplying the work by three. So, I decided to let that sit for a bit and focus on the Rock Garden and Jake's Juke. I thought it would be cool to set up a JavaScript controlled playlist where a visitor could select a number of songs or even playlists on the page from both YouTube and Bandcamp. Unfortunately, Bandcamp doesn't seem to have a generic ability to control the player with JavaScript, and YouTube doesn't count views if the video is started via JavaScript. As someone trying to help my artists get recognized, not counting the views is an issue. Arguably the effect of my tiny site doesn’t matter, but it's the principal of it. |
2025.02.09 | I've said before that writing is difficult for me, and with this site, having the ability to go back and continually edit is something that makes it a bit easier on me. Even these logs can take a strange amount of effort to write up. So, from time to time I reread parts of the site after I haven't looked at them for a while to see how they sit with me. Usually, if I find anything it is small, a word or phrase that needs adjusting. But every so often it's a bit bigger. As I reread my Noctica notes I found that some of it felt "crunchy" and other parts felt like they didn't accurately communicate what I wanted. So, I spent some time over the last few days editing it. Even though I had it finished last night, I was looking at it again today and I needed to make a few tweaks to paragraphs with major edits. Think I'll let it set again and maybe I'll get it posted today or tomorrow depending on how I feel about it at the time. |
2025.02.08 | I've been doing so little log entry I forgot to make a new page for February. And I am finding that there is quite a bit of repetition in my log ideas. Like I'll be thinking about how I hate writing and being able to edit the site whenever, really makes it easier, only to realize I've already mentioned that months ago in another log. And I guess it's not the end of the world to repeat stuff, especially months apart. But it also feels weird, particularly when you read the entries back-to-back. |
2025.02.06 | Been thinking about adding another page like the Rock Garden for permanent music listings tentatively called "Jake's Juke". The Rock Garden is a place where I can just slap in new music I find that I want to revisit. Jake's Juke would be more involved, sort of a middle place between the Rock Garden and the full artist writeup like Pacifica and company got. It would be a place to listen to music and place my thoughts about an artist, album, or track without need to make a whole new page or section each time. I need to figure out how to deal with growth and organization. While I want to add a little more fancy factor to the Rock Garden eventually, it is meant to be kind of down and dirty. And it shouldn't get that big because it's a temp holding spot, eventually songs should be moved to Jake's Juke or just removed. Jakes Juke however, will continue to grow so organization and size will matter more. |
